Sunday, June 8                    Annual Hand-Cranked Ice Cream Social

1 p.m. - 4 p.m.                       Hand-crank your own ice cream, the old fashioned way!

                                                Docent-led tours of the cabin will also be available.

Admission: Adults - $3, Ages 5-17 and Senior Citizens - $2, Under Age 5 – Free

 

Sunday, June 22                  Needlecraft Day

1 p.m. - 4 p.m.                       Continuous demonstrations of a variety of needle and hand crafts.  Possible demonstrations include tatting, knitting, crocheting, quilting, spinning, embroidery, and bobbin lace.

Docent-led tours of the cabin will also be available.

Admission: Adults - $3, Ages 5-17 and Senior Citizens - $2, Under Age 5 – Free

 

Sunday, July 13                   Woodcarving Day

1 p.m. – 4 p.m.                      Join woodcarver Bill Vogel and his friends as they demonstrate the art of hand-carving pieces of wood.

Docent-led tours of the cabin will also be available.

Sunday, July 27                   Pioneer Cooking Day

1 p.m. – 4 p.m.                      Join the LeCount family as they present a continuous demonstration of cooking and other aspects of pioneer life.  Chuck, Sarah, and Wil are reenactors from New York with local ties.  They will share their love of pioneer life with visitors to the cabin.

Sunday, August 10              Depreciation Lands Day

1 p.m. – 4 p.m.                      Join Sue Stanny of the Depreciation Lands Museum as she talks about the history and importance of the Depreciation Lands to the development of western Pennsylvania.  Sue’s interactive discussions will begin at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 16           Second Annual Civil War Living History Weekend

Sunday, August 17              Join the reenactors of the Pennsylvania 78th and many of their friends as they recreate the

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.                    atmosphere of a Civil War encampment.  Interact with the soldiers!  Watch them drill and go about their daily lives.  View artifacts of the period.  All reenactors and their friends are in authentic dress and use historically correct gear.  Don’t miss this chance to see history “up close and personal”.

Sunday, August 24              Herb Talk

1 p.m.-4 p.m.                         Join Master Gardener Barb Bishop as she discusses everything you ever wanted to know about herbs.  She will use herbs from the cabin’s garden (graciously maintained every year by the Herbal Thymes Garden Club of Saxonburg) and some of her own.  Barb’s interactive discussions will begin at 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, September 21        Cider and Sauerkraut and Pioneer Day

12 p.m.-5 p.m.                       Join us for a day of pioneer demonstrations (and tastings) ranging from apple cider, apple butter, and sauerkraut making to wool spinning.  A wide variety of pioneer activities will be demonstrated.  Check our website in early September for a complete list of the demonstrators.
